This is going to be a real short list for me because something today sparked it. Basically I got pulled over today for one of my brake lights being out, also slightly over the speed limit but let's neglect that for now. All I'm going to say is that it would be extremely nice if there was some way of knowing that your brake light is out. Sort of how the turn signal flashes faster if one is out. I don't know what it would be though. Maybe just a HUD that says, "hey man your tail lights out better get that fixed".

Also, Fuck plastic clips.

My CLK has a dashboard light that tells me if one of the lights is out.

Well then that rests my case. I guess I should just not worry about my no thrills, gadget wise, car

Actually, my ES300 does have a dash light that indicates a bad tail light. A steady orange light in the shape picture of a car with the tail lights on means one of your tail lights are out.

If you have a bad brake light, then the same light goes on whenever your foot is on the brakes.

They automatically go away once the lights in question are replaced. And I hope you replaced all of your tail light bulbs!

My 96 ES300 has that, as did my 91 ES250.

I think my mom had a Volvo with a "bulb out" dummy light on the dash. It was great until it would come on when none of the bulbs were out...

Just the brake lights. It's fairly easy to do it, just a two clips and two bolts then a firm pull.

That's really cool that your car has that though

My Tipo has an electronic check system that reports blown lights, fuses, worn out brake pads, battery problems... I'll have to look at the manual to see what else it shows, but I had a blown brake light a while back and everytime I stepped on the brake a small "STOP" wouldlight up on the dashboard.

I would love a HUD, to bad GM is the one who usually offered that.

Mine's from 1995 :p

But now that you mention it, I'm surprised I never saw that little panel in any other car, it's useful as hell.

Kinja'd!!!

Here's a picture of one I found on the internet. It's not from mine, as Sedicivalvoles had water and oil temperature and pressure gauges in place of the fuel gauge and whatever else is written to the left on the bottom row.

In ontario it is not a crime to have 1 or 2 or 3 or 4 brake lights out. You just need a single light wokring, and you're set. This is the only thing in the world ontario is lenient on.

Yeah, and it's even more cool considering that the ES250 had it in 1990! (although mine was a 91, and my current car is a 96)

I do wish all cars had that though, and it should be fairly easy today with all those infotainment shit in even the cheapest cars! "Tail light out"

I don't understand why they don't have systems in place on all cars to tell you when a lamp is out. It's easier to check your tire pressure, but damn near every car has TPMS these days, so why not an indicator to tell you when a bulb is out?

And plastic clips are ok in my book, at least I've never had an issue with that style. I like the plastic rivit guns, they're kinda neat to use.

Usually fancy cars have such warnings. The turn signal thing is just a trick of AC circuits.

Since when is 130 in a 45 "slightly over the limit"?

Oh you mean you got a ticket? Oh.. Well, do tell!

Isn't a taillight out a fix it ticket? Get it fixed, show them you did and get it dismissed.

I would also like a system that checks the system that checks to make sure the brake light is not burnt out.

I didn't get a ticket or anything. I was going maybe just over 40 in a 35? Don't even know. He followed me for a few miles before pulling me over.

When you have a dinosaur car/truck like me, you just have to look from time to time. I back mine up close to a wall and I can tell without getting out if the lights are all working.

No, he was somewhere behind me or off to the side once I turned on to the 'main' road there and sped up a little too much I guess.

I had an 89 Camry that would tell me if any taillights, brake lights, turn signals, or head lights were out! Great system. It was also one of those cars that had an automated shoulder restraint lol

If you're not doing at least 5 over here be prepared to be run off the road. Some places treat speed limits as mere suggestions, lol.

We had a '75 Caddy that used fiber optics to show you the brake/running lights were/were not working. It's not high tech...

Came here to say the same. 95 in PA is 55mph. I've had a cop follow me doing 80. The usual morning rush hour speed is 80-85mph, which is technically enough for a reckless driving citation and licence suspension

Kinja'd!!! DocWalt > eovnu87435ds

I drove from PA to DC on 95, never dropped below 80mph. There were times I was doing 95mph and getting passed. Those speeds sure made the trip take a lot less time, haha.

Yeah. The only downside is that my Subaru will be at 4000rpm in 5th to keep those speeds. I then burn through gas...

He's right, my E46 tells me if a light is out.

Sometimes it'll tell you the light is out when it actually isn't, but you really don't want to tell a German car that it's wrong. That's not in your best interests.

Also, once you learn how to successfully remove and work with plastic clip, they're great.
